Magic Diamonds

(Published on 23. September 2025, 23:00 by billybeth)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. This puzzle contains three 3x3 Magic Diamonds (which may overlap) 3x3 Magic Diamonds are 45 degree rotations of 3x3 magic squares which use and count either only cells of an even cell-count or only cells of an odd cell-count (a cell-count is determined by adding the cell's row number and column number ie the first cell's cell count on the grid is even and box number one contains five even cell-counts). In these magic diamonds the six diagonals and also the 3 cell vertical and horizontal lines (ignoring the wrong cell-count squares) all sum to the same total. Black dots separate cells in a 2:1 ratio. Not all black dots are given. Both the long diagonals on the grid each contain only three different digits.

I‘ve solved this puzzle with some additional assumptions about the magic squares from which I‘m not sure if they actually hold or were meant to be given (the assumptions seemed plausible after some fiddling around, but I haven‘t proven them to my satisfaction).

Even so, there‘s a deadly pattern at the end, which could be resolved by e.g. adding another black dot between R6C1 and R6C2.

In any case, this was an interesting puzzle. Thanks for sharing.
