Fog of War with Catapults - a new variant

(Published on 21. September 2025, 07:39 by Jeet Sampat)

Obscured Catapults

Rules:

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

The grid is covered in fog.
Placing correct digits will reveal surrounding cells.
Guessing is not allowed.

A catapult comprises of a circular bucket attached to a T-shaped fulcrum.
A bucketed digit X gets flung over the fulcrum and lands Y distance away from the bucket, where Y is the digit on the fulcrum.
No other instance of X appears between the landing cell and the bucket.

E.g. if R8C7 = 3 and R9C6 = 1, then R6C9 = 1 and R7C8 =/= 1.

Clarification: Digits cannot be catapulted out of the grid.

Try it on Sudokupad.

Very unique and enjoyable constraint, without being too simple!

Nice idea and great puzzle. I found the middle quite tricky. Thanks!

The ruleset also reminded me of slingshot, just with the orientation of the clues being diagonal instead.

However this turned out to be a slight disadvantage as while slingshot rules count from the end of their arrow, here the catapult starts from the catapult itself, so I had to keep myself from being off by one a few times :)
