Happy Birthday sujoyku! (ft. ChinStrap, gdc, mellowrobinson, MSDOS, Nordy, SamuPiano, and sujoyku)

(Published on 1. October 2025, 13:29 by Calvinball)

What do you get the setter who loves a good collab for their birthday? How about one of largest collaborative efforts ever seen in a 9x9 grid!

This puzzle started a few months ago when sujoyku was quietly asked to send over a few clues that could work well together in a break in, and thankfully he obliged because we were able to include him as a collaborator in his own birthday puzzle! After some passing the grid around a total of 8 different setters have had their hand in shaping this puzzle, I'd like to extend a massive thank you to ChinStrap, gdc, mellowrobinson, MSDOS, Nordy, SamuPiano, and of course sujoyku for taking part in this project, and helping churn out a puzzle I think you should all be proud of.

A very happy birthday to you sujoyku, all of your friends jumped on this project with enthusiasm not just because you're a great setter, but also because you're a better person.

If you have any questions feel free to DM me on Discord.

Happy solving!

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column, and box.
  • Killer Cages. Digits may not repeat in a cage and must sum to the number in the top left corner of the cage.
  • Dutch Whisper Lines. Adjacent digits along a thicker orange line must differ by at least 4.
  • Region Sum Lines. Box borders divide the thinner blue line into segments, each of which has the same sum.
  • Odd Lots. Digits in yellow circles count the total number of odd digits along the attached line. The circled cell includes itself in the count if it's odd.
  • Split Peas. Digits on a thin green line with circles at both ends sum to a two-digit number, where the 'tens' digit is in one circle and the 'units' digit is in the other.
  • Solve on Sudokupad

Happy birthday sujoyku! Seems so weird that we haven't even been contact for a year yet, but quickly you've become a great friend and collaborator. My setting and solving have grown thanks to you as well.

Thanks Calvinball for organizing this collab. It was very fun to hop in and contribte my part (odd lots), even though keeping up with the gorgeous breakin by sujoyku was hard :D

Thank you for this wonderful present and for all your kind words! I am lucky to have found friends like you. And it was a brilliant plan to involve me as an "unknowing" collaborator. The puzzle has put a big fat smile on my face that probably won't wear off until next week. Thank you so much, all!
