Schadenfreude

(Published on 11. September 2025, 23:51 by Andrewsarchus)

About:

This puzzle was created for Scojo's 2nd annual Secret Impostor event.
This was the real Andrewsarchus puzzle.

I successfully defended my identity against my imposter, Laake,
who set this charming puzzle: ┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ)

which is a fitting sequel to my (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ puzzle.

Rules:

  • Sudoku-ish rules apply:
    • Digits may not repeat in a row, column, or 3x3 box in the main grid.

  • Disjoint Groups:
    • Digits occupying the same relative position within their 3x3 boxes in the main grid must be distinct.

  • Doppelganger:
    • Every row, column, and 3x3 box in the main grid must contain a 0, and must therefore omit one of the digits from 1-9.
    • Each digit from 1-9 is missing from exactly one row, one column, and one box.
    • For each 0, the digit missing in its row, column, and box must be three distinct digits.

  • Three auxiliary grids are provided for recording the missing digits.
    • The 9x1 strip below the main grid records the digit missing in the corresponding column of the main grid.
    • The 1x9 strip to the right of the main grid records the digit missing from the corresponding row of the main grid.
    • The 3x3 box in the lower right records the digit missing from the corresponding box of the main grid.

  • 0-Coordinate Arrows:
    • The digits on an arrow read from tail to tip are the row and column respectively of a distinct 0 in the grid.

  • Circles:
    • The digit in a circle counts the number of digits in the up to 8 surrounding cells which contain a digit from the set of digits missing from the circle's row, column, and box.
    • All possible circles are given.

  • Squares and Diamonds:
    • Let R,C,V be the digits missing from the square's row, column, and box respectively.
    • Then there is a diamond located in Row R, Column C, which contains the digit V.
    • (Note the digit in the square is not relevant).
    • All possible Squares and Diamonds have been given.

Certainly difficult, but it flowed really well once I asked the right questions. And of course I’m always partial to coordinate arrows. Thanks for the puzzle! :D
