Stinky Stuffing

(Published on 15. August 2025, 15:25 by the_cogito)

I've been working on this idea for the past few days, and I'm really happy with how it's turned out. I hope you like it :)

Rules:
- Normal Sudoku rules apply. Digits may not repeat along the indicated diagonal.
- Numbers outside the grid are simultaneously full rank clues and sandwich clues. A '?' can be any number.
- Full rank: A number outside the grid represents the rank of the number formed by reading the digits in that row or column from that direction, where (1) is the lowest such row or column and (36) is the highest.
- Sandwich: A number outside the grid represents the sum of the digits located between the '1' and '9' in its respective row or column.

The fact that you can place any digits at all in this grid is astonishing. The fact that this SOLVES is absolutely freaking bananas. The fact that it not only solves but is smooth and enjoyable from start to finish and keeps presenting novel and satisfying logic throughout is, pardon the cliche, nothing short of a miracle. Incredible work.

Easily one of the most impressive puzzles I've seen. Incredibly minimal grid, and yet the solve path is incredibly smooth and uses all the clues brilliantly throughout.
I have no idea how to you'd even begin with making something like this.
