Sudoku Variants Series (436) - X-Products

(Published on 8. August 2025, 08:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a unique Sudoku variant every week.
I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

X-Products
Apply classic sudoku rules.
Clues outside the grid indicate the product of the first X digits in the corresponding direction. X is the first digit in the corresponding direction.

Inspiration for this type comes from RockyRoer, although in his puzzle X-Sums and X-Products are combined. I wanted to have a pure X-Products first and in SVS #437 next week I do the combination of sums and products too.

Oh, nice! I really like that some of the products are still ambiguous even as you go through the "normal" sudoku stuff, making you constantly go back to checking your factor combinations.

It was so nice to wake up to a comment from you on one of my puzzles. I knew exactly what your new puzzle was! :-) And, ahh! So nice! Products are so much easier to work with than sums. More people need to give them a try. Thanks for sharing and can’t wait for next week!

Reply: thanks!
I also think products are interesting, but the fact that they are easier to work with is because the number of (reasonable) possibilities for products is limited. And that also makes that you can vary a bit less with products than with sums. But I am happy how this one turned out and to have this type now included in the series!

So elegant. That cannot have been easy to put together.

Maybe I was lucky in the setting process, but there is only one earlier version that I discarded. :)
