Unstable Seesaws (Collab with Piatato)

(Published on 5. August 2025, 16:04 by Cane_Puzzles)

On March 27th 2022, I sent my good puzzle friend Piatato the following message:

"I have a puzzle idea I came up with quite some time ago. I thought of ways I could follow up
a certain setup but I couldn't think of anything. Would you be interested in providing ideas?
I would love to have a colab with you."

Martin's ideas got us much closer to a complete puzzle. However, life got in the way.
Sometimes one of us was too busy. Sometimes we forgot about this puzzle. But occasionally
we agreed to spend a few hours trying to finish it. We had many solvable versions throughout
the years, but we wanted the perfect one. Finally, we reached this one.

Rules:

1) Classic Sudoku rules apply:
Place a digit 1-9 into each cell of the grid. None of the rows, columns or boldly outlined 3x3 boxes
contain repeated digits.

2) Consecutive Pairs Sudoku rules apply:
Digits in adjacent cells separated by a white dot differ by exactly 1.

3) German Whispers Sudoku rules apply:
Adjacent digits on a green line differ by 5 or more.

4) Killer Sudoku rules apply:
The digits in a cage sum to the small number given in the cage. Digits may not repeat in a cage.

This is the puzzle:

Probably the hardest one I've solved yet. Its logic was so elegant, I loved it.

Amazing puzzle! It took me around 45min so I would say like a 3.5 difficulty.

The logic in those 4 rows is simply incredible and beautiful how it works

Very impressive!

Beautiful break-in, not very difficult and well telegraphed. Midgame was surprisingly hard. Overall 2-3 stars.

Great puzzle - worth the wait. Break in is exceptional.

Beautiful break-in! Thank you very much for creating and sharing this lovely puzzle.

Wow, a really neat (and delicate) opening sequence that made use of the constraints well! The flow remained pretty consistent for me later on so I might put this one towards lower side of 4/5 diff. Thank you both for this well-crafted puzzle :)
