Stranger Cells Pt. 2

(Published on 29. July 2025, 16:43 by mimec)

This is the second puzzle inspired by Stranger Things. The previous one had surprisingly few solves, so this time I'm including a small graphical explanation of the rules. It's not very difficult and I encourage you to give it a try.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Each cell N in the solved grid has a corresponding shadow cell whose value is 10-N. The grid contains normal clues related to normal cells, and shadow clues related to shadow cells. The solver must determine which clues are shadow clues. There are exactly 3 shadow clues in the grid.
  • Cells connected by an X must sum to 10. Cells connected by a V must sum to 5. Digits connected by a white dot are consecutive. Not all Xs, Vs and dots are given.

The image below shows an example of a partially solved grid and the corresponding shadow cells. For example, the digit 6 has a corresponding shadow cell whose value is 10-6=4. The V clue marked green is a normal clue, and the V clue marked red is a shadow clue, because it's only true for the shadow cells.

Shouldn't the V clue marked red in the example be the 7-8 or 6-9?

---

Yes, it's the same clue, I'm just showing the shadow cells to try to make it more clear.

Now I understand, thanks!

Got it in 19:27. After a while trying to understand the rules, I noticed just how restricted the "shadow" is. After that, smooth solving to the end. Thanks for the puzzle, going to try the previous one now.
