German triplets

(Published on 15. July 2025, 20:45 by Adrian71)

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply
  • German triplets are formed by three digits on a straight line that follow German whisper rules, i.e. adjacent digits on the line differ by at least 5
  • All German triplets are given and indicated by green lines
  • Digits separated by a black dot have a ratio 1:2 (not all black dots are given)

@dzamie r9c567 could be something like 361. It is not a german triple, because one of the differences is less than 5. But the polarities still alternate, so you can't conclude that r9c56 have the same polarity.

I must be misinterpreting the negative constraint (line 3):
* r9c5 must match r9c6's low-high polarity to avoid r9c5-7 being a triplet
* r7c5 has matching polarity, and r8c5 has opposite, since they're on a triplet line
* r7c4 has matching polarity, to avoid r7c4-r9c6 being a triplet
* r9c4 has matching polarity due to being on a triplet with r7c4
* Box 8 now has five numbers that are either in [1234] or [6789]: r7c4-5, r9c4-6.
What am I missing in the rules? This is a really fast contradiction.
