Modular fog
(Published on 1. July 2025, 09:41 by Lithium-Ion)
Rules: Normal Sudoku rules apply. The grid is covered in fog. Placing a correct digit may clear fog somewhere in the grid. Draw a one-cell wide snake that moves orthogonally through the center of cells and does not touch itself (not even diagonally). The snake starts and ends in cells marked with a square. Within each box, the number of snake cells is at least one but at most the box number. Within each box, the cell that contains the box number has to be part of the snake. Boxes are numbered in normal reading order. Each set of three consecutive cells along the snake must contain one digit from the set 147, one digit from the set 258 and one digit from the set 369. Two orthogonally adjacent snake cells are not allowed to contain consecutive digits. Cells marked with a circle are part of the snake and indicate the total number of snake cells that can be seen vertically and horizontally (including the cell with the cirlce), where non-snake cells block vision.

I really enjoyed the snake part, very fun logic. The sudoku part afterwards was a bit tedious scanning for me, because the remaining fog made it somehow a bit harder to see pencilmarks and did not really add sth. Nonetheless great puzzle!

Was finding it pretty difficult mid-way through. Then I remembered the consecutive digits rule (which I had used previously, and then apparently just decided it doesn’t exist anymore :P). Great flow! Thanks for setting :)

This was a great puzzle, thank you. But for me it is more 2.5 star difficulty.
