Cubism? (Region Sum Lines)

(Published on 28. August 2025, 04:37 by tallcat)

Every now and then an idea forms at the back of my mind and refuses to go away until I've set a puzzle around it. The beginnings of this one first came to mind about a year and a half ago - but it was mostly ignored as i wasn't sure what to do with it. I'm pleased how it turned out in the end! Happy solving!

Normal sudoku rules apply

Region Sum Lines: Box borders divide each blue line into segments with the same sum. Different lines may have different sums.

Can be played online at f-puzzles and Sudokupad

Solution code: Column 7 (Top to bottom; 9 digits, no spaces)

Love love loved this one! Puzzles like this are the reason I love sudoku. Constant challenge until the very end, but so logical and transparent.

Well worth the year and a half of maturation! Opening is beautifully crafted and the remaining clues bring the whole thing to a satisfying conclusion. Thanks :)

Wow! It's rare that a variant sudoku impresses me nowadays, but this one did.

Very nice construction, some digits almost dancing into place (even though that makes it sound easier than it was). Thanks!

Absolutely fascinating! I think the amazing break-in was the original idea, but the rest of the setting isn’t less admirable. Thank you very much for creating and sharing this fantastic puzzle.

Beautiful puzzle. Delightfully clever break-in and super smooth after that.

Frankly still not quite sure what the idea was that led to this puzzle, but I did enjoy solving it. Never easy, but always some place to chip away at options until you find a new limitation.
