(Published on 3. July 2025, 05:04 by aqjhs)

This puzzle is dedicated to isamook's effort to bring more Coordinate Arrow puzzles to the world.

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • The digits on an arrow, read as B→P, indicate that the cell in box B with relative position P, must have a digit equal to B+P. No two arrows may refer to the same cell.

Note: Box and position numbers are to be considered in western reading order, i.e. left to right, top to bottom, as shown in the leftmost image:

Clarification: Arrows have the box number on its base, and the position number on its tip. For example, if an arrow has the digits 6→3 then the cell r4c9 has the digit 9, since the 6th box in western reading order is center right, and the 3rd position (also in western reading order) is Top Right.

@SirWoezel. It means that the boxes and the positions in the boxes 1-9 are numbered left to right, it doesn't say anything about the arrows or their directions ... but it seems ignoring also worked. :-)

Ok, my conclusion is that it's probably best to just ignore this line saying (Both the box and position numbers are to be considered in western reading order.) The box number is always in the _back end_ of an arrow, the position number always _in the tip_.

***

The note was about what number gets assigned to each box/position, not about the arrows themselves. I moved the note to its separate space to avoid confusion.

Alright, but doesn't that mean an arrow pointing right is just the same as one pointing left? It doesn't matter where the tip of the arrow is since you always read the box and position number from left to right?

@SirWoezel: I suppose it means reading from left to right, top to bottom, as usual - although it appears that some setters are doing their best to find original wording to express standard rules. :-)

Don't really understand this rule: 'Both the box and position numbers are to be considered in western reading order'
