Top Right Boi (Psycho look-and-say/Arrow)

(Published on 21. June 2025, 12:00 by dumediat)

I haven't set a psycho look-and-say puzzle in a while, so here you go! Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 in each row, column and box without repetition.
  • Arrow: Digits along an arrow must sum to the value in that arrow's circle. Digits may repeat along arrows if allowed by other rules.
  • Psycho look-and-say: Each cell in a pink cage indexes a cell in the grid. The indexed cell is located in box N (where N is the digit placed in the original caged cell), in the same position within box N as the position of the original caged cell. A cell may index itself. Digits may not repeat within a cage. Numbers in the top-left corners of cages should be read as look-and-say clues, which count the number of times a digit appears in all the indexed cells of that cage (eg, a '23' clue means there are exactly two 3s in the indexed cells).

To help familiarize yourself with the rules of psycho look-and-say cages, I have included a link to a playable 6x6 example below along with the solved grid (green cells in the solution are ones that are referencing another cell that counts towards the look-and-say total, and gray cells are ones that are not):

Whew, I agree with ViKingPrime it's a beast of a boi! It feels impossible at first but there are secrets to be discovered. There is some very interesting logic behind these pink cages
