Double Stacks

(Published on 24. May 2025, 14:46 by bboom)

This puzzle was inspired by Marty's stick puzzle series. The mechanic is different, but I stole the idea of making stacking order a part of the rules from there.

Puzzle rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Region Sum Lines: Box borders divide each blue line into segments. Digits in each segment sum to the same value. The sum may be different for different lines.
  • Modular Lines: Each group of 3 consecutive cells along a teal line must be a different value modulo 3. So each group contains one digit from (3,6,9), one from (1,4,7) and one from (2,5,8).
  • Double stacks: When two lines cross over each other, the value (sum of all digits) of the line on top will be exactly double the value of the line below.

I cannot make it work with all modular groups on a line being a different value mod 3, so I take it to mean „another“ rather than „different“.

This was excellent. Took me a while to get to the point where I could place a digit and it fell beautifully from there.

Very fun. Novel approach with the double stack lines. I'd love to see more of these in the future, seems like a great concept to explore with even more depth. Very cool. Thank you!

absolutely not level 2. you have to go pretty far out into the wilderness just to get started. the main logic is entirely new, and you need considerable experience with modular lines.

the QUALITY is very high.

hint: the mid-stack line is VERY restricted, and 1+2+3+4+5+6 = ... and the "extra" (forgot the word) is already used up.
