Unbridled?

(Published on 23. May 2025, 10:18 by Neb)

  • Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1 to 9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.
  • Anti-Knight: Cells a chess Knight's move away from each other may not contain the same digit.
  • Unique Killer Cages: Within a cage, digits don't repeat and they must sum to the small number written in the top left of that cage. Additionally no digit may be used more than once among all the cages of the same sum, even if that sum is not explicitly given.

Thanks Neb. My mistake, the box 5 cages applied with the rules ensures a smooth solve. After working through the break-in, totally forgot to apply the same sum number rule to the cages in box 5. Great puzzle.

Very, very tricky. The break-in (not sure if the one I found was the intended one), was remarkable...very subtle. Well done. Incredible setting. Bravo.

Flowed nicely until a certain point, and then just ran into too many dead ends. Am I missing something with the rules or cage totals in box 5 (obviously they can't have the same digits)?

------------
Neb: The cages in box 5 are influenced by the sums of the other cages. If a digit causes the total of a cage to match a sum that already exists elsewhere, it must still maintain the uniqueness of that sum. This significantly limits which digits can be placed in the cages in box 5.
