Remotely Unique

(Published on 15. May 2025, 22:24 by Wuschel)

  • Normal Sudoku rules: Place the digits 1-9 in each row, column and box, without repeats.
  • Dynamic Fog: The grid is partially covered in fog. Placing correct digits will clear that cell and possibly reveal more clues. Guessing is not required and discouraged.
  • Unique Constraints: Each of the following constraints may not have repeated digits on its clues. E.g. if there is a 5 on a Renban line, any Renban line may not contain another 5. It does not restrict the placement of digits on other constraints, e.g. a modular line may still contain a 5.
  • Parity Lines (P): Adjacent digits on a Parity Line have different parity (odd/even).
  • Renban Lines (R): A Renban line contains a set of consecutive digits, in any order, without repeats.
  • Modular Lines (M): Each set of 3 adjacent cells on a Modular line must contain one digit of (1,4,7), (2,5,8) and (3,6,9). (-> Mod 3)
  • Split Sum Lines (S): Dots split these lines into segments, where each segment sums to the same total.
  • Even Digits: Digits in a cell with a filled gray square are even.
  • Black Dots: On a black dot one digit is double the other.
  • White Dots: On a white dot digits differ by 1.
  • Remote Sums: A digit N in a cage points at a digit X N cells away in its row or column, so that N and X sum to the clue in the top left corner of the cage, if given. Both digits, N and X, are considered as part of the clue for the Unique Constraint. E.g. if r1c1 contains a cage with a 6 in its top left corner, and the cell contains a 4: This places a 2 in r1c5 or r5c1, possibly even both (no negative restriction) and no other remote sum may contain the digits 2 or 4.

Man, the midgame was brutal for me, I was about to give up, but I stumbled upon the solve by mere luck, because my (clearly insufficient) logic took me nowhere.

That ending was cheeky, made me laugh.

Thanks for a great puzzle!

Great puzzle! Started to doubt myself right at the end. Very nicely done!

Beautiful puzzle. The resolution at the end was a piece of art.

Both digits that make up the sum are considered to be part of the clue and not allowed to appear in other remote sums.
