Dutch Angles

(Published on 14. May 2025, 16:20 by ChinStrap)

Set for a Scojo setting prompt for Dutch Whispers. My goal was to figure out what makes them more than just annoying German Whispers, so I settled on this. Thanks to all testers, and I hope you enjoy!

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Dutch Whisper Lines: Adjacent digits on an orange line must have a difference of at least 4.
  • Numbered Rooms: All outside cells on a clue must contain a digit. That digit must also appear in the Nth position looking into the grid in the row/column, where N is the digit in the first position.

All feedback (positive or critical) appreciated!

Solution code: Row 3, left to right (9 digits)

This felt like revealing the sculpture from the marble block!

Took me a long time over a few sessions, but the interactions here are surprising, making for a sublime puzzle, logically as well as aesthetically. I would argue this is just as much a discovery as it is creation of a puzzle.

This was sublime. An absolute joy to solve.

This was fantastic! Just look at that unfilled grid. So elegant. This was my first numbered rooms puzzle, but I found it came quite intuitively to me. The way it all bounced around the triangles, inside and outside of the grid, was absolutely gorgeous, with many satisfying moments. The break-in stumped me for a while but was a lovely feeling of achievement once I'd had the relevant realisation. Possibly my new favourite ChinStrap puzzle, and not an index line in sight!

Nice puzzle, which I found rather difficult.

Maybe it's because I have an old computer, but for me SudokuPad doesn't show the orange lines; I had to add them using the pen tool. Does anyone else have the same problem?

---

ChinStrap: I've fixed the link to remove the white outlines which should make it work for you. I had one other report like this. Can you give me browser details to help report a bug about this?

---

Thanks; the new link works for me. I'm using Firefox version 78.150esr (64-bit) under Mac OS X 10.11, which is probably too old for anyone to care about a bug report.

I still feel awkward when it comes to Numbered Rooms.
But with your help, I could do it. :)
Thank you, ChinStrap!
