Unique Under the Fog 2.0

(Published on 9. May 2025, 13:21 by Visumation)

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Red Ten-lines must be divided into non-overlapping segments that all sum to 10. (T)

Every set of three sequential cells on a peach entropic line must contain one small digit (1,2,3), one middle digit (4,5,6), and one big digit (7,8,9). (EN)

Neighbouring digits on a green German Whisper must have a difference if at least 5. (GW)

Every set of three sequential cells on a mint modular line must contain one digit from (1,4,7), one digit from (2,5,8), and one digits from (3,6,9). (MO)

Digits in a cage sum to the clue in the top left of that cage (if given).

Digits separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio.

Each constraint type may contain no repeated digits anywhere in this puzzle. Eg. If one renban line contains a 5, then no other renban line may contain a 5.

Additionally the grid is partially covered in fog. Placing a correct digit may clear fog in somewhere in the grid.

Very enjoyable- one technical critique there’s no GW labelled on the last whisper revealed. I’m not colour blind but thought it was odd, assuming it’s a tiny oversight and doesn’t detract from being excellently set. Edit: also typo in instructions for German whispers they differ by at “keast” 5. (Dyslexic here so it’s a rare treat to spot a typo before others! lol)

Thanks a lot. Fixed. /vis

I'm glad you're making this into a series! I love this ruleset and how the uniqueness constraint can apply in surprising ways.

Are the rules meant to imply a modular line must have three cells? I stared at the puzzle with about half the cells filled for rather a long time before making the assumption and finishing it in less than three more minutes. Was there a way to solve without the assumption? I assume so but couldn't see it.

Hi. Thanks a lot for solving and commenting. Yes, there is a way to see it without making that assumption. You can send me a pic. of the place you are talking about on Discord, and I will take a look. /vis

Thank you. I'll go back and see if I can find what I missed. I bet it'll turn out to be something simple and I'll kick myself for a day!

My very first three-star puzzle! 38:25, not a half bad time either! This was very enjoyable all the way through, and every break I had to make felt earned. Thanks for helping me unlock some of my latent skill! :)

Very nice puzzle! Loved how the unique digits rule came into play throughout the puzzle as a whole! I rated it at 3*, felt like somewhere between 2.5*-3* for me but was definitely on the harder end. Thaks for a fun puzzle!

Thanks a lot for your comment and solve. I actually had the same thoughts, but ended up putting it up as 3. /vis
