Foggy Skyscraper Killer Sandwiches

(Published on 12. May 2025, 01:04 by pagedo)

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Outside the Grid Digits/Clues:
Skyscrapers (Icon: ) - Each cell represents a ‘skyscraper’ whose height is the digit in that cell. Taller skyscrapers obscure the view of smaller ones. Clues outside the grid tell how many skyscrapers are visible looking across the row or column from the direction of the clue.
Little Killer (Icon: ) - Clues outside the grid gives the sum of the digits on the indicated diagonal. Digits may repeat along the diagonal if allowed by other rules.
Sandwich sums (Icon: ) - Clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the digits between 1 and 9 in that row or column.

Other Rules:
Cells with grey squares contain even digits.
Cells with grey circles contain odd digits.
Digits joined by a white dot are consecutive. Cells joined by a black dot, one digit is double the other.
Not all dots are given.
Parts of the board are covered in fog. Placing the correct digits in all the revealed cells will lift more fog and reveal other cells.

My first skyscraper puzzle, so it felt more difficult for me. Once I understood the rules and how to read clues on the bottom, I got through it, quite nicely. Thank you!

Column 4 and column 7 were brilliant, wish I could rate this higher than very nice

pagedo: Thanks @JVA. I was very happy setting it first. Then to be able to repeat it - extremely happy.

@Ganbatte
Imagine that digits are representing buildings of different heights. The digit is how many floors is in the building. Now imagine that you stand where the skyscraper clue is and look across the grid at the buildings in that row/column. Depending on how the buildings are placed some may be placed behind taller buildings so you cannot see them, like if you placed a 7 floor building in front of a 3 floor building, then you wouldn't be able to see the 3 floor building behind the taller 7 floor building, but you would be able to see a 9 floor building placed behind the 3 floor building. The skyscraper clue tells you how many buildings you can see.
An example with a random number sequence: 481937625. From the left you would be able to see 4, 8 and 9 so the clue would be 3. From the right you would be able to see 5, 6, 7 and 9 so the clue would be 4.
Hope this helps.

I am partway through and enjoying the puzzle. I thought I understood the skyscraper clue but now I realize I don’t. Could someone put it in different words or give me an example? I don’t quite understand the rule. @zilla, thank you very much! I get it now. (Solved! Thanks again.)

The lingering fog can be a bit intimidating, but the reveals are really satisfying :-)

A masterpiece. A great compilation of fog with standard constraints and a wonderful solve path

Is it okay to place digits in the fog although this won't clear fog?

pagedo: @jinkela114514 - Yes definately.

Why are outside clues in purple?

pagedo: @jinkela114514 - So they don't distract you from the digits you are entering and scanning in rows and columns. It helped me to focus on the Grid box digits.

Incredible! I feel very clever. It takes a while to understand how to leverage the skyscraper logic. I love the clues that outside digits that use multiple clues. Awesome!
