After my longest break since beginning regularly setting, I have a few puzzles that will be hitting the portal soon! The first of these is this one, inspired by Scojo's Setting Saturday prompt to set a blue puzzle.
This uses the ruleset that I invented about a year ago, called pacifist cages. The first puzzle featuring these cages, "Pacify", is one of the puzzles that I am happiest with in all my time setting.
Without further ado, here are the rules:
Rules:
Sudoku: Normal sudoku rules apply.
Pacifist Cages: The blue cages are "pacifist cages" - digits CAN repeat in a cage, and the set of all digits in a cage (not including repeats) cannot contain any subset which sums to the number in the top left corner of the cage. For instance, a 5-cell pacifist cage with an 18 in the corner could be 1 2 3 9 9, as the set {1, 2, 3, 9} does not have a subset which sums to 18, even though 9+9=18.

Happy solving! Please leave a comment if you enjoyed this one, and check out some of my other puzzles!

For a bunch of pacifist cages, this sure was a killer puzzle :)

Really lovely flow to this one. Tip for a solver, don’t do what I did and make any kind of table on separate paper to try to break in X)

Beautiful puzzle. Cages and "something else" combine wonderfully.

This was a lovely second edition of the ruleset, with interesting interaction between the geometry of the grid and the cages.
