Right Back at You

(Published on 15. April 2025, 18:23 by Calvinball)

I have always been a great admirer of zegres, his puzzles always just spoke to me, and he was ultimately the person who kick started my foray into setting. I always knew I wanted to set a Parity Mirror as something of an homage, and this is what I came up with. I did set a 6x6 Parity Mirror last year, which you can check out here if you feel so inclined.

A big thank you to sujoyku for testing an earlier version, which lead to a much needed tweak, as well as everyone else who tested and left feedback.

If you have any questions feel free to DM me on Discord.

Happy solving!

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column, and box.
  • Parity Mirror: The diagonal from r1c1 to r9c9 acts as a parity mirror. Each cell has the same parity as the cell reflected in the mirror, i.e. if r2c6 is even, r6c2 is also even.
  • Tentropy Lines: Every set of 4 adjacent digits on a peach line must contain a digit from each of the X-pair (ten-pair) subsets of {1,9}, {2,8}, {3,7}, and {4,6}. A 5 may not appear on a tentropy line. For lines less than length 4, all digits must be from different subsets. Digits on a line may repeat if allowed by other rules.
  • Arrows: Digits along an arrow sum to the digit in its circle.
  • Solve on Sudokupad

Very clever construction! Not easy (for me) to find the next steps at some points on the path, so I gave 4*. Thank you very much for creating and sharing this gem.

Lovely! I'd probably say more like 3.5* but it was a really great use of all parts.

Wonderful puzzle! There were some really intricate steps to figure out and I loved the use of geometry and the Tentropy lines. Thank you for this fun construction, Calvinball!
