(Published on 30. March 2025, 15:40 by sujoyku)

This Killer Sudoku (encouraged by Calvinball) belongs to a series with my puzzles El Doce, El Trece and Did Someone Say Fourteen?. I like to thank all testers and wish you joyful solving!

- Normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column, and 3x3 region has to contain the digits from 1 to 9 once each.

- Killer cages: Digits in a cage do not repeat and must sum to 15.

Here you can solve the puzzle online:

For anybody who thinks that 15 is an uninteresting number in a killer sudoku, this puzzle makes 15 sexy.

**
Thank you for your comment, OGRussHood! I am glad that you liked the use of 15-cages in this puzzle.

Solve Time: 54:44*

I rated this 4/5 difficulty.

Excellent killer puzzle! This one reminded me of "Fourteen" by @FryTheGuy (an older 2021 puzzle that I solved a few months ago), and was (similarly) very enjoyable and cool. This solve felt slightly easier than that one, but still was in the same "sphere" of difficulty/complexity - which I believe is around a hard 3* to easier 4* difficulty overall.

The "break-in" (for me) was fairly approachable, and it used a lot of interesting (and beautiful) geometries that were tricky to spot (but very satisfying to unravel). Throughout the early midgame I made steady progress, but after I had deduced the polarity of around 75% of the cells, I got quite stuck and spent a while coloring until I eventually made a few big deductions.

(*) One other thing to note about the difficulty is that my solve time is a bit lower than it should be. I accidentally restarted the puzzle around 5-10 minutes into my first attempt, so upon my second attempt I progressed through the early phase(s) of the solve quicker than I otherwise would have. I would guess that my "true" solve time is closer to 59-60 minutes, which would place it around the "harder 3*" or "easier 4*" range for me.

My favorite aspect of this puzzle was the geometry/placement of the 4-cell cages, and how they interacted with each other. The geometries of the other sized cages were also wonderful, but I think the "non-obvious" logic of the 4-cell cages was really nice.

Thanks for sharing this one!

You are much welcome, TheNineElements, thank you for your detailed feedback! I agree pretty much with your assessment of difficulty. Also let me say that it makes me happy you enjoyed the logic coming from the 4-cell cages because that is my favourite part as well.
Thanks again for taking the time to describe your solving experience!

Brilliant killer! Wonderful work with the cage interactions and the necessary sum deductions with the 15s. Part coloring puzzle, part cage/high-low challenge, this was a really well executed entry into the killer canon. Such fun. Thank you!!
