Akari Sums
(Published on 7. April 2025, 12:00 by Oripy)
This puzzle was made last year for the OUCH! Series presented on CTC server.
Rules:
- Normal 9x9 Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 exactly once in every row, column, and 3x3 box.
- Akari: Place lightbulbs into some unshaded cells so that every unshaded cell is illuminated. Lightbulbs illuminate the cell they’re in as well as all cells seen in a straight line horizontally or vertically, not obstructed by a shaded cell. Lightbulbs may not illuminate each other. Digits in cells with cages represent the number of lights in the (up to) four cells surrounding the clue.
- Akari Sums: The digit in a lightbulb cell is equal to the sum of the digits of the (up to 4) first shaded cells it sees in each direction horizontally and vertically.
- Arrows: There are circles in the grid with attached arrows. The digit in the circle is equal to the sum of the digits on the attached arrow. Digits are allowed to repeat along the arrows as normally allowed by other rules.

This was fun. I'm a fan of Akari, nice to see it represented so well. This was trickier than i expected too! Great use of the sums to constrain the solve path. Very nice. Thank you!
> Very glad you liked it! It is definitely one of my favourite of the OUCH! series. I'm trying to post a puzzle every Monday, don't hesitate to come back for more!
