- Normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column and 3x3 region has to contain the digits from 1 to 9 once each.
- Killer cages: Digits in a cage do not repeat and must sum to the clue in the top left.
Here you can solve the puzzle online:
Solution code: Row 4 from left to right (9 digits in total)

Sujoyku: what a marvelous puzzle! I'm pretty sure I didn't follow the intended solve path. But I did manage to do it. 80 minutes. Just at the edge of my solving abilities. Bravo! (PS I'm also a big fan of the classics!)

Thank you for your comment, PDN777! I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Honestly, I don't care if you take my "intended path" or not, as long as you have a fun solve. If you like to discuss any of the steps, feel free to write a hidden comment.

Despite all the crazy inventive sudoku novelties in recent years, I still prefer the good old simple variants, and this is a prime example of one!

Thank you for your comment, Blashyrkh! I am glad that you also appreciate the good old classic variants. :)

Wow, what a clever puzzle. The coloring of the 89's and their respective friend was brilliant. Then there seemed to be a secondary break-in which was a bit more subtle. Very fun solve!

Solve Time: 33:29
I rated this 2/5 difficult.
Really great killer sudoku! I felt like this was on the harder end of 2* puzzles, and my time was definitely longer than most 2* puzzles I solve.
The puzzle had a lot of great ideas, and the solve felt smooth and was very engaging/interesting. The break-in was pretty tricky (IMO) and it took me quite a while before I started making big progress and placing digits. The ways that the geometry between cages interacted was really nice and not at all "obvious".
I probably could have solved the puzzle a bit quicker if I utilized the semi/psuedo-symmetry (the puzzle doesnt have perfect symmetry, but the logic/geometry was fairly similar on the different sides of the grid), since I found myself focusing on particular sections of the grid and neglecting to check how my deductions affected other cages. I also spent a bit too long coloring digits, and in hindsight it wasn't really necessary. I definitely over-colored the grid and overlooked some more basic ideas (like hidden pairs/triples, etc.), which would have saved me some time.
Even through my solve wasn't super efficient, it was very enjoyable and consistent, and I never felt like I got too stuck. Once I began placing digits, the whole puzzle seemed to come together really nicely, and led to some cool logical sequences. Since I found it fairly tough to begin placing digits, this made it all the more rewarding!
Thanks for sharing this puzzle! I definitely recommend giving this puzzle a go!

Thank you for your comment, TheNineElements! I am glad you enjoyed it. I also agree in terms of difficulty. I actually had it at 3 stars, but am also fine with 2 stars. Probably, it is somewhere between those two.
