Spliced Orange (Dynamic FoW)

(Published on 17. March 2025, 10:14 by gdc)

And another puzzle using Equal Split Lines. This time with dynamic fog. Thanks to the CtC discord for testing. Hope you enjoy!

Normal sudoku rules apply.
Dynamic Fog: The grid is covered in fog. Placing a correct digit in a cell lifts fog from that cell and possibly other cells.
Dutch Whispers: Adjacent cells along lines share an edge and their digits differ by 4 or more (even across dots).
Equal Split Lines: Dots split lines into segments with equal sums. Digits may repeat on lines but not within a segment.

modify fog triggers to prevent branching line

with fog puzzles, you really should state that lines don't branch or cross
---
gdc: My intent was to use the fog triggers in a way where this assumption is not needed. Because of your comment I just found that I missed one spot and updated the puzzle accordingly. Thanks for that!

Lots of fun! Got stuck for a bit because I forgot that 4 and 7 are not, in fact, four or more apart from each other.

Loved it! I got stuck in some of my reasoning by focusing on one of the constratints and forgetting about the other! Very smooth solve path if not for my own ineptitude! Thanks GDC.

I rated this 2/5 difficulty.

Another great @gdc puzzle! Really enjoyed the solve path as a whole, but the break-in was my favorite part of this one!

I was very happy/surprised to discover that the initially revealed line (the VERY beginning revealed cells) had a unique solution! It really didn't look constrained at first, but as soon as I began experimenting, it became clear that it was actually quite restricted, and the logic for the digit placement(s) were very nice.

This puzzle was quite approachable, and definitely worth giving it a go! Compared to your (@gdc) previously released dFow puzzles, this one was probably the easiest/most approachable puzzle yet. That being said, it was NOT trivial and had generally engaging/interesting logic throughout.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this nice puzzle, gdc! I loved the implications of the Equal Split Lines/Dutch Whisper duality.
