A Camel's Tour (Camel Move/Kropki)

(Published on 24. February 2025, 21:13 by damo_89)

EDIT 02/03/25: Well this has gone down like a cup of cold sick! I really want to deactivate this puzzle as I have clearly done a very poor job of telegraphing what I wanted the solver to do, and I feel bad that a puzzle majoring on a new and exciting constraint is so bad. If you are the sort of masochist who is minded to solve some of the worst rated puzzles on LMD, I have attached a solution guide (PDF) so you can see what the intended logic is and decide whether it was fair. (I also think people should leave their failures for all to see, otherwise by survivorship bias it looks like setters produce all perfect puzzles, and this is not true!)

Further edit - solve Lorena's camel move puzzle.

This puzzle came about as after a serendipitous discussion on Twitch with TonberryJava who mentioned the idea of combining the camel's move with kropki. As a new rule (as far as I know), it is a little difficult to judge difficulty so I am pitching at 3 stars. Good luck!

  • Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1 to 9 once each in every row, column and 3x3 box
  • Camel Kropki: A camel's move in fairy chess is 3 squares forward and 1 square to the side. A camel in a black circle indicates that all cells a camel's move away must be either double or half the digit in the circle. A camel in a white circle indicates that all cells a camel's move away must be consecutive with the digit in the circle.

Nice puzzle! Felt more 2* to me personally

Damo: Thank you for the kind words. I plumped for 3 due to the unorthodox scanning and being a new constraint, but can see argument for 2.
