Gigglywhirl (Nabner Whisper)

(Published on 4. January 2025, 16:08 by tallcat)

It's not common for me to revisit past puzzle ideas to add some new flavor to them (my early Four Corners puzzles being the main exception). However, on a recent long journey, the idea of remaking "Whirlygig" with nabner lines instead of renban came up and although I dismissed it initially, it refused to go away. So here we are! I really like the end result and am surprised at how distinct a puzzle this is compared to the original. Happy solving!

Normal sudoku rules apply

Nabner: Digits cannot repeat on golden lines and lines cannot contain consecutive digits, regardless of order. For example, if a line has 3 anywhere on it, then 2 and 4 cannot appear on that line

German Whispers: Adjacent cells along green lines must differ by at least 5. Digits can repeat on lines if allowed by other rules.

Can be played online at Sudokupad

Solution code: Row 8 (left to right). 9 digits, no spaces

Very neat and rewarding puzzle! I enjoyed the delicate opening idea here and then that one breakthrough in the middle gave me some chuckle there :)

An aesthetically pleasing construction with all of the geometric jiggery-pokery that I've come to expect from Tallcat.
