Greedy

(Published on 24. August 2024, 14:32 by marty_sears)

Had fun working on this constraint idea from Isamook, a suitably chaotic twist on Scojo's copycat cells.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • GREEDY CELLS: Every row, column and box contains one greedy cell. A greedy cell takes on the value of its digit added to the digit in the cell 180° rotationally opposite itself. Eg: if r3c3 is a greedy cell containing a 2, and r7c7 is a 6, then r3c3 has a value of (2 + 6) = 8. Each digit 1-9 appears once in a greedy cell.
  • GERMAN WHISPER: The values of adjacent cells along a green line have a difference of at least 5.
  • NABNER: No two values anywhere on a yellow line may be the same or consecutive.
  • SAME DIFFERENCE: Any pair of adjacent values on a turquoise line has the same difference. This difference must be determined for each turquoise line.
  • BLACK KROPKI: Values joined by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio.
  • WHITE KROPKI: Values joined by a white dot are consecutive.

Was very good. Just when I thought I'd finished it, you caught me out again.

what a wonderful puzzle. Beautiful and elegant progression from start to finish, I enjoyed every moment of it. (And no messy/difficult deductions -- if you look in the wrong place you make no progress whatsoever, and as soon as you look in the right place, it flows effortlessly to the next spot). Really, maybe one of the best puzzles I've ever done.

Very interesting puzzle! Broke my brain at first as I kept looking in the wrong spots for the break in.

Only at the end do you understand the true meaning of the title.

A great pleasure to solve - as always. These greedy cells are quite tricky to handle, but your setting was perfect. Thank you very much for creating and sharing.

Lovely, and very smooth for such a crazy seeming modifier rule. Every question I asked felt productive but hard earned.
