6x6 Shikaku Sudoku

(Published on 10. July 2024, 10:19 by jinkey)

Wanted to try combining shikaku and sudoku together and came up with this 6x6. If people like this variant I may try to set a 9x9 in the future.

Normal 6x6 Sudoku Rules Apply.

Shikaku Sudoku Rules:

Divide the grid into rectangular and square pieces such that each piece contains exactly one circle, and the digit within the circle represents the area of the rectangle.

Shikaku rectangles must have an area greater than 1.

Shikaku rectangles of the same area may not touch each other (diagonally touching is allowed).

Digits do not repeat inside a shikaku rectangle.

Required a lot of guesswork. I don't know whether the solution was unique. It was a good puzzle as a proof of concept, but I couldn't spot a fancy solve path.
