Zipper madness

(Published on 3. March 2024, 21:10 by Dantheman8urham)

The Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Kropki dots: Digits connected by a white dot are consecutive. Digits connected by a black dot have a 1:2 ratio
  • Diagonals: Digits 1 to 9 do not repeat on the blue line
  • Zipper lines: Digits an equal distance from the center of the red zipper line sum to the center digit
  • Killer cages: Digits in a killer cage sum to the value in the top left corner of the cage. Single-digit cages have unique digits which don't repeat in other single-digit cages
  • Magic square: Box 5 is a magic square, meaning that all of the rows, columns and diagonals in that box sum to the same number
  • Doubled Digit: One digit in the entire grid is doubled.

The puzzles is solvable if you ignore the contradiction in the 14 cage which should read 19. Alternatively one could eliminate the double digit rule and just say that the center of the Z is doubled for purposes of the "Z" zipper line only.
Furthermore "Doubled Digit: One digit in the entire grid is doubled." Is still ambiguous because the digit appears 9 times so does it mean each of the 9 appearances of -redacted- is doubled or just one cell in the entire grid is doubled. The answer is the latter. Replacing the word digit by cell solves the problem.

Though honestly just getting rid of the whole red Z would be better since it ads absolutely nothing to the logic since magic square already has all that information, the only thing you need is the orientation and that is taken care by kropki and cage not by the Z. Just MHO. I also see that the Z could have been there for aesthetic purposes.
