Nurimisaki Killer

(Published on 27. March 2023, 18:51 by Jay Dyer)

Rules

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Shade some cells so that no 2x2 area is fully shaded or unshaded, and the unshaded cells form a single connected area. Any dead-end unshaded cell (i.e. one which is bordered on three sides by shaded cells or the grid boundary) contains a digit equal to the number of unshaded cells visible in a straight line from that cell, including itself (shaded cells block the view).
  • All clues are in shaded cells. Each connected area of shaded cells contains exactly one clue, which equals the sum of the digits in that area. Digits may not repeat within one of these areas.

Solve in f-puzzles or Sudokupad.

Solution code: Row 2 and column 2.

My first ever 5 star solve, only took a cool 100 minutes! The logic is absolutely stunning all the way through and flows surprisingly well once you grasp the ruleset. Absolutely beautiful work.

Brilliant puzzle! I had to literally inch my way through. Got badly stuck at several points but small pieces of very intricate logic took me ahead. Thanks a lot for sharing

Added rule clarification (that clues are always shaded).

I figured they had to. Very nice hybrid! :)

Must all clues be inside of a shaded area?

Another remarkable puzzle as one would expect coming from Jay. I loved how you used the dead-end constraint! Thanks for the fun :)
