Theseus (Chaos Construction Sudoku)

(Published on 17. March 2023, 10:27 by Mr.Menace)

This is a puzzle that's clearly inspired by Ariadne by KNT, and Oenopion's Revenge by Niverio. I hope it is close to as good as those puzzles, but it's my homage to both puzzles (and setters).
Note that this puzzle is hard, but can be solved entirely logically.

- Normal Chaos Construction rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 in every single row, column and region. Regions are orthogonally connected and have to be determined.
- A digit in a clued cell indicates the number of cells seen in the indicated directions combined (including itself). Region borders obstruct vision.
If there is any ambiguity about the ruleset, the puzzle Ariadne has an example puzzle, called Oenopion.

Mr Menace this is an wonderful puzzle! I always find the very difficult chaos construction puzzles somewhat nerve-wracking because of the risk of making an error that is only discovered much later - was extremely relieved to get the 'solution correct' message on this one. That's certainly not to say there isn't excellent (and very elegant) logic here - but I'd certainly put this puzzle at the upper end of the 5 starts for difficulty! Thanks for making it.

Man, what an insane and cleverly done puzzle! The first half was full of cute and lovely deductions but the later half... I didn't prepare enough for that, I think I need something to chill myself after that crazy tug of war towards the end.

Marvelous puzzle! Reminded me more of @KNT's Orpheus with some of the deductions and region-building.

What a lovely tribute! But it is also extremely hard. Definitely hardest of the ones I have set/solved in this ruleset. Thank you!
