Dustpan (Disjoint parity sweeper sudoku)

(Published on 23. February 2023, 13:00 by Qodec)

  • Sudoku: Each row, column, and region indicated by thick borders in the grid must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.
  • Parity sweeper: Cells marked with a circle show the number of digits with their same parity in their 3x3 neighborhood (including the digit in the cell). (E.g. if r1c1 is a 4, then all 4 cells in the r12c12 block are even. If r1c1 is a 1, 1 of those four cells is odd, which is r1c1, and so all three cells surrounding it must be even.) Not all circles are necessarily given.
  • Disjoint groups: Digits cannot appear in the same relative position within different box regions. (E.g. r1c1 and r4c4 cannot contain the same digit.)

You can play this puzzle online using:

Solution code: Row 8. I.e. the 9 digits in row 8 from left to right, for example: 123456789

Very satisfying solve, the disjoint constraint slowly inches you to the solution like so many breadcrumbs. Really lovely flavor combination with the parity sweeper.

A beautiful idea!

Wow! The opening logic is beautiful and amazing! I'm still amazed that it had a unique (and findable) path from there. Thanks!

Excellent puzzle, lots of fun!

Lots of fun and enjoyment! The disjoint scanning clearly slowed me for a long while, but really I should've looked for obvious spots much better in here :P

These two rulesets marry together so well. It was a wonderful solve. Not easy, but not needlessly frustrating either--as the disjoint groups puzzles can sometimes be.

This puzzle took me almost 2 hours but I had lots of fun doing it

I typically don't enjoy disjoint sets, but a puzzle this fun and clever is always going to be an exception to that.

Thanks for taking your time to set this!

Fascinating puzzle! I enjoyed gradually unraveling everything and luckily the discount groups weren't too hard on me. :)

Beautiful puzzle. Thanks for this.

Brilliant puzzle! The minimalistic nature of the grid slowly unravels its magnificent secrets beautifully!

Clarified there's no negative constraint.
