Sandwich Box

(Published on 7. February 2023, 20:29 by ademjaz)

This is the 9x9 version of the 6x6 puzzle that you can find here. I hope you enjoy it!

Rules :
  • Fill the grid such that each row, column, and orthogonally-connected 9-cell region contains the digits 1-9 with no repeats. The regions must be determined by the solver.

  • Clues outside the grid give the sum of the digits between the last cell in the first region and the first cell in the last region in the corresponding row/column. If only one region occupies a row/column, then a clue outside that row/column would indicate the sum of the digits between the first and the last cell in that row/column (as that region will be simultaneously the first and last region).

  • Palindrome: Digits on a grey line read the same forward and backward.

  • Region Sum Line : The sum of the digits along a blue line must be the same within each region the line passes through.

  • Play online: Sudokupad

Solution code: Row 8 then Column 7 (18 digits, no spaces)

Nice puzzle but I found the rules here misleading and initially went around in quite a few circles because of it.

For future solvers, the sums are between the last cell of the first instance of the first region, and the first cell of the last instance of the last region i.e. if a region has gaps within a row or column, only the portion that directly connects to the outer 9x9 border matters.

As already mentioned at the 6x6 I really like the logic of the puzzle. There was one step were I need a couple of minutes to find it, nevertheless a very beauty solve path. Thanks for the fun.
