[Episode 1] The Fog Logic Puzzle (Sudoku + Ripple Effect variant)

(Published on 16. December 2022, 08:50 by AstralSky)

This is a logic puzzle basing on the Fog of War clearing mechanics!Fog is used let you keep track of which cells need to be illuminated. So yeah, there are no extra constraints hidden under the fog.
  • Rules:
  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.Partial lighting fog of war apply.
  • Outside clues give the sum of the light sources in the corresponding row/column.
  • A light source illuminates an 3x3 area centered on it. All fog must be cleared.
  • A light source must not see another light source within an orthogonal distance(cell center to cell center) of N, where N is the digit inside the light source.(Like it is in the pencil puzzle genre Ripple Effect.)

Solution code: Row 5 then Column 4

Thank you, very nice, enjoyed it!

@ermi: Thank you so much! The only fog puzzles I’ve seen have had unfogged starting squares due to light sources unlighting them. So at this point it’s a fair assumption that an unfogged square at the start is lit up somehow. Maybe fog setters should clarify this in the future!

@asp1310: The 3 in row 6 isnt a light source, otherwise it would illuminate the 3x3 area aroung it

Took me a couple tries but it was a fun solve! Just fyi, the “solution” on CTC is just the light source digits in their cells

How is the given digit possible? The rules would both state that row 6’s light sources total to 5...but also that you cannot add another light source to row 5 (since every cell in that row is 3 cells or less away from the 3 that’s already there).
