Non-Venomous

(Published on 16. November 2022, 08:07 by Scruffamudda)

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Within the grid lies a single snake of orthogonally connected cells which does not touch itself (even diagonally).
The first and last cell on the snake contain the digit 9.

Digits placed on circles and squares show the number of snake cells in the surrounding (up to) 9 cells including the circle or square itself if it is on the snake.
Circles contain odd digits, squares contain even digits.

Nice puzzle, approachable difficulty. However I found the wording of the instructions very confusing. It seemed to me that "if it is on the snake" meant that only IF the circle/square was on the snake, then it indicated the number of surrounding snake cells. And so I thought that part of the puzzle was trying to determine whether a particular circle/square was on the snake or not, and I couldn't figure out how to start the puzzle for about 30 minutes.

I have to admit that I struggle with the rules. The snake not touching itself, but still somehow ending in a square that is surrounded by 9 snake cells just doesn't add up to me.

Seeing how much people like this, I would like to give it a go but don't know how to go about it.
-------------
The first and last cell of the snake must not be on a circle or square.

@Guillem98 - “a single snake of orthogonally connected cells which does not touch itself (even diagonally).” So no. If r8c9 and r9c789 were part of the snake, it could not loop around to r8c78 since it would be touching itself, for example. Or if r8c789 were part of the snake, it couldn’t loop down to r9c789 since it would also be touching itself. Another way to think of it is no 2x2 region anywhere can ever all be part of a snake.

It's only a theorical case, could R8/9 C7/8/9, all the 6 cells be part of the snake?
