Gin (11x11 Deconstruction)

(Published on 13. November 2022, 23:51 by lerroyy)

Rules:

There are 9 non overlapping regions of 9 cells. A region has 9 cells that are orthogonally connected containing the digits from 1-9. Digits may not repeat in a region, row and column. The cells that are not part of a region are empty cells.

Numbers outside the grid give the sum of the digits until the end of the first region (the first edge after a region).

Dots and diamonds separate 2 regions or a region and an empty cell. A white dot separates 2 consecutive numbers, a black dot 2 numbers with a 1:2 ratio, a black diamond 2 numbers with a 1:3 ratio and a grey dot is a white or a black dot or a black diamond. If a dot/diamond separates a region and an empty cell, it does nothing (apart from separating the region and the empty cell).

A clue between the grid and the outside of the grid acts between the first digit in a region cell and the outside cell.

There is a very tricky step at the end of the puzzle, so I put a hidden hint at the end of the page under the image of the grid if you need it.(it's in white text color)

Solve on penpa+

This is an example, it is only here to show the rules

Hint:

Every digit has to appear in 9 row/columns of the 11 rows/columns. 3 is not in r1 and r11, so it has to go in every row from r2 to r10

Solution code: row 6 with X for empty cells

Great puzzle! Some beautiful deductions in there.

Absolutely brilliant puzzle! I am in awe of this construction! Brutal but never unfair, and every deduction was a joy to find.

Absolutely brutal, yet very clever and engaging puzzle till the very end. The part with col 123 and then the region distribution part near the end were my favorite moments of the solve, thanks for this wonderful journey! ;)

A clarification: "A clue between the grid and the outside of the grid acts between the first digit in a region cell and the outside cell." Does this mean that empty cell(s) can be between the outside clue and the first digit even with a dot in place, and that the first digit and outside number still fit the given dot's ratio? For example could you have an outside clue of 2, then a black dot, then an empty space, then a 1? Or would it have to be adjacent to the 2? Or could it be any digit at all since the empty cell was there?

There can be empty cells between the outside number and the first region cell when there is a clue on the border of the grid. The clue will act on the outside number and the first region cell, you can see how it works on the example. So if you have a 8 outside the grid, then a black dot on the edge of the grid, if you have 7 empty cells and then a region cell, that region cell will have to be 4.

Oh okay thank you! I don't know how I glossed over the example but that clarifies things. Now hopefully I can actually make progress...

np, good luck!

Very nice and challenging, thanks!

Fantastic puzzle! Consistently very challenging throughout, but with a fair and rewarding logical path. I did look at the hint near the end, but in retrospect it was something that I should have spotted more quickly, definitely not an unreasonable or too complex deduction.

New puzzle link, I forgot to add a rule from the lmd page on the penpa page.

If a dot separates two cells belonging to separate regions, must it necessarily function as a kropki dot or can it simply do nothing but separate the regions?

if a dot separates 2 regions, it must work as a kropki dot, so if a black dot separates 2 digits in separate regions, those 2 digits will have a 1:2 ratio

Superb puzzle :) The symmetry of the clues is also very impressive. Thanks for this!

Awesome, challenging puzzle with a great variety of logic. There is a deduction in C1 that is just amazing.
