6x6 Full Rank Sandwiches

(Published on 8. October 2022, 22:29 by Jay Dyer)

I've been making a number of 6x6 sudokus recently, and it's been interesting finding ideas that actually work better on different sized grids for one reason or another. This one in particular was pretty fun to make, and has some very weird logic in it.

Rules:

  • Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.
  • Each clue outside the grid is a number to be determined by the solver, which serves as both a sandwich clue and a full rank clue.
  • Sandwich: the clue gives the sum of the digits sandwiched between 1 and 6 in that row/column.
  • Full rank: Read each row and column from top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top, left-to-right and right-to-left to give 24 6-digit numbers. If these are listed in increasing order, a clue gives the position of that row/column (as read from the end with the clue) in said ordering, with the lowest number being at position 1.

Play in f-puzzles or Sudokupad.

Solution code: Rows 1, 2, and 5.
