Breakeven (Yin Yang Parity Sudoku)

(Published on 20. September 2022, 09:00 by Agent)

Can't have too many Yin Yang hybrids! In this one I revisited the idea of further restricting killer cages with Yin Yang shading. I thought of a few alternatives, but the ruleset below seemed the most promising. It should be fairly approachable as well - I believe it lies somewhere in the high 3 / low 4 territory.

Rules

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Normal Yin Yang rules apply. That is, shade some cells in the grid such that all shaded cells are connected and all unshaded cells are connected. No 2x2 box may be fully shaded or fully unshaded.
  • Digits in a cage cannot repeat and must sum to the small clue in the top left corner.
  • In cages, all shaded cells must contain even digits, and all unshaded cells must contain odd digits.

Very nice puzzle :D
thanks to regularly watching CTC I saw the breakin almost immediately, but then thought I had broken the puzzle and sat there for like 20 minutes questioning my sanity until I realized that parity only matters inside the cages XD .. that's what you get for using the "regular" coloring for even/odd ^^
From then on it was a breeze and a very nice solve.
Thanks a lot for the fun! :)

-- Thanks Grymbarth! I'm glad you enjoyed this puzzle!

Nice one! The break-in I found was especially satisfying and flowed quite nicely from the ruleset. I'd put it at about 3* for me. Thanks for sharing!

Great puzzle, but I found it harder than Antithesis which is rated higher (4 stars). Thanks for the submission!

-- Interesting, which part did you find more challenging? I suppose the break-in?

One day in the distant future we might have too many Yin Yang hybrids, but we're not there yet. Thanks Agent, for a welcome addition to the stock.

I am very happy to test this Agent's relatively easier Yinyang sudoku. Very good new idea, look forward to new puzzles.
