Nessus (Liar Fillomino [10x10])

(Published on 16. June 2022, 03:40 by KNT)

I'm a total fillomino novice, but I had a blast this past week going through Jesper and Phistomefel's catalogues and solving some of their fillomino variants. This puzzle is nothing crazy, but I felt inspired to try my hand at a fillomino variant as well. This was a fun set!

Rules:

Normal Fillomino rules apply.

Exactly one of every type of clue in the puzzle is lying to you. For example, of the 4 arrows in the grid, one of these arrows must not satisfy the arrow rule as described below, but the other 3 must.

Clue types in the grid:

  • Arrow: Digits along an arrow sum to the digit in the attached circle.
  • Thermo: Digits along a thermo strictly increase from the bulb end.
  • White Kropki: Digits separated by a white kropki are consecutive.
  • Black Kropki: Digits spearated by a black kropki are in a ratio of 1 to 2.
  • Even: Digits in a grey square are even.
  • Renban: Digits along a red renban line form a distinct set of consecutive digits.
  • Whisper: Adjacent cells along a green whisper line differ by at least 5.
  • Skyscraper: Outside clues are skyscraper clues. If every cell in the grid is treated a building with a height of their digit, these clues indicate the number of seen buildings from that direction, where taller buildings obscure buildings of equal or lower value.
(If it isn't clear, for skyscrapers, the 5 clue in row 10 could be satisfied by a row like: 2 2 1 6 6 6 4 4 7 11 17)

Play on Penpa+!

Answer check is enabled with green edges.

If I had not done a few fillominos before, I would have thought I had broken it around the end... but I kinda knew it would end up being about a weird configuration ! Just amazing how this solves and how every type of clue fulfills its own role in getting the puzzle forward. Thanks for this beauty KNT !

Very fun puzzle to solve!

Very cool puzzle, I especially liked the ending! I was convinced that I broke it for 20 minutes straight, but it was very satisfying once I figured out how it works.

I was quite scared of this one, but in the end it turned out to be a hugely enjoyable puzzle!

Green and red lines are quite difficult to differentiate for color blind folks. Am I correct that r5c2, r5c5, and r6c2 are renban lines, with the third line only being 2 digits i.e. the rest is green?

----

Hi @ascension, yes, you are correct. Sorry about the color choices, penpa doesn't have too many of them for lines. For future reference, what colors are good contrast for color blind people?

----

Of the options in Penpa, the black and light blue worked best for me. Using different patterns would might be better, though.

Regardless, I enjoyed the puzzle!

Absolutely amazing, really loved that ending, and several deductions throughout.

Incredible puzzle, worked out like an intricate timepiece. Never before have I been so convinced that I'd broken a puzzle when I hadn't. The one tip I would give to potential solvers is not to try this puzzle in a sudoku frame of mind. It is not a sudoku, it is a fillomino, which is a different beast and does not have the same constraints!

Fantastic puzzle! Great to see some more Fillomino variants, and this one was very interesting and well constructed. I really enjoyed the ending in particular!

One can easily loose his mind figuring out the truth about the last regions. Very well hidden finale. thanks.

Lovely! Very interesting logic. Also easy to make mistakes in this one. Future solvers: double and triple check your deductions!
Thanks KNT :)

A lovely puzzle! It felt like a really linear solution path; everything follows nicely step by step, but definitely not in a predictable way, which makes it exciting.

You made me solve my first fillo with a puzzle like this, Mr. Evil. Yet it was a fascinating solve, and indeed not too difficult considering it took me only 1 hour. Very enjoyable!
