Double Bubbles

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Shikaku-sudoku: The grid is divided into rectangular regions of orthogonally connected cells. Each rectangle contains exactly one circle. A single cell with a circle can count as a 1x1 rectangle.
  • A number in a circle represents how many cells are in the rectangle the circle belongs to. Rectangles cannot overlap. Every cell in the grid is part of a rectangle. Digits may repeat in a rectangle if allowed by other rules.
  • Skikaku regions of the same size cannot touch orthogonally.
  • Prime-Co Lines: Lines must be orthogonal, and made of alternating Prime and Composite (non-Prime) digits. The digit "1" and all circle cells will be excluded from all lines. The number in the circle between two cells on a line will be the difference of those two digits, if given.
  • Adjacent cells on a line segment are from different skikaku regions.
  • ALL possible lines have been given.

Very cool! Difficult to scan but very friendly construction :)

Thanks for the solve wisty!! Shikaku is one of my absolute favorite pencil puzzles to mix with sudoku; along with the usual oddball ruleset, but I hope you found some interesting logic within..

My problem was I kept forgetting that the negative constraint doesn't apply to circled cells. Even using coloring to remind me of that fact could not prevent me from making that simple stupid mistake over and over again.
-----
Thanks for persevering and hope the puzzle was fun anyway. The decision to exclude the lines from the circles was to keep the grid from getting to cluttered/messy, as it is fairly close now. (giving too much additional information about the shikaku regions was also a concern)
Before this final version, the lines were cages and it was fairly hectic and proved a bit more confusing, especially when the cages had to bend 180 degrees.

When you say "ALL possible lines have been given", do you mean all possible orthogonal lines, or all possible orthogonal AND diagonal lines have been given?
-----
That's a decent point. Will update the rules to specify that lines must be orthogonal.

Fantastic puzzle! A lot of fun, although I don't know how often I've tripped up on the negative constraint. Thx:)
-----
Agreed. Upon testing feedback, that seems to be the most often forgotten rule, but is definitely necessary in a place or two.. =P
Thanks for the solve and the humbling compliment/feedback, really glad you enjoyed the puzzle.
