Mad Hatter's Three Party

(Published on 12. September 2021, 15:58 by fjam)

An Alice In Wonderland theme with a suitably mad ruleset. Cryptic rules are initially given with official rules below (experienced solvers are encourage to avoid these and work out the rules).

You appear to have invited yourself to this Three Party, where everything is normal. As you have seated yourself you may have some wine, but as there is no wine you shall have to have three. The Queen's tarts would be magically arranged, but three was spilled on one and switched with another. You may have some sandwiches, but you must always enjoy three alongside them. Three does not belong in sandwiches! It is always threetime, six o'clock, here, but the days on the timeline seem to jump around by at least some number related to the arrangement of the Queen's tarts. No doubt some answer lies at the middle of all this madness! The timeline seems to have broken into three pieces too, and three has been spilled three times on the timeline, which could mean anything! I see you immediately eight the top sandwich, no manners at all...

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • The red cells would form a magic square (where each row, column and diagonal must sum to the same number), but the 3 has swapped places with another digit.
  • Clues outside the grid give the sum of the digits sandwiched between the 1 and 9 in their respective row/column. A 3 must always be placed outside a sandwich, adjacent to either the 1 or 9 in the same row/column.
  • Along green lines, digits must have a difference of at least the digit placed in the centre of the magic square. 3 appears three times on these lines and may break this rule.
  • An 8 must be placed next to the sandwich in row 1.
