VXL Sandwiches

(Published on 3. July 2021, 14:00 by RockyRoer)

Here's the latest in my "Sandwiches Without Givens" series. Other puzzles in the series are:

The Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Numbers outside the grid are sandwich clues -- that is is the sum of the numbers between the 1 and 9 in that row or column. These clues will have to be determined.
  • Numbers separated by a roman numeral must sum to that roman numeral (not all clues are given):
    • Numbers separated by a V must sum to 5
    • Numbers separated by an X must sum to 10
    • Numbers separated by an L must sum to 50

The Puzzle:

Link for solving online with penpa since 0's and writing on the outside of the grid may be useful. Answer check only checks numbers inside the grid.

Solution code: The numbers in the 6th row (left to right) followed by the numbers in the 6th column (top to bottom)

I really like these "out of the box" constraints, so I also like your Ren Ban Sandwich puzzle. Fun, novel and approachable.

Great puzzle!
The difficulty points contained in the two L clues are cleverly set!

Fun puzzle! There was a couple of steps that definetely weren't straightforward, so I'd say that it's at least a solid 3.

Agree fully with 3 star rating (2¾ if I had to be more precise).

Need to clarify, can the outer prompt number be the number 0? Thank you!

Reply: Of course - a sandwich sum of 0 would be a 1 and 9 next to each other.

Ok, tks.
