Pentomino Skyscraper

(Published on 26. June 2021, 15:37 by RockyRoer)

In my previous puzzle, Pentomino Dimension Inequalities, I introduced using the idea of referring to the HEIGHT and WIDTH of each pentomino. This puzzle also uses that concept:

The Rules:

  • Fill the grid with pentominoes. Pentominoes of the same shape (even after reflection or rotation) are not allowed to touch.
  • Each pentomino has a width and a height:
    • Clues on the outside of each row are skyscraper clues describing the number of pentominoes that could be seen from that direction if each pentominoes skyscraper value was its WIDTH.
    • Clues on the outside of each column refer to each pentominoes HEIGHT.

      Example:

FYI: Example puzzle has another possible solution...

    • In the example puzzle, the I pentomino has a width of 1, the Y has a width of 2, the W has a width of 3 and the L has a width of 4, so the skyscraper clue of 4 is satisfied as it sees pentominoes of width 1, 2, 3, and 4.
    • In the example puzzle, the L has a height of 2, the W has a height of 3, the Y has a height of 4, and the P has a height of 2, so the skyscraper clue of 3 is satisfied as it sees heights of 2, 3, 4 (and doesn't see 2).

The Puzzle:

Solution code: The WIDTH's of the pentominoes in the 8th row, followed by the HEIGHTS of the pentominoes in the 8th column. (20 digits)

A cool idea and a very enjoyable puzzle! Thanks, RockyRoer!

I also have two suggestions: Could you please also include in the German description of the solution code that it contains 20 digits? Just reading it, I thought that the solution code consists of the width and height rsp. of every pentomino, ie one digit per pentomino.

The second remark is that just from the rules and the example it was not entirely clear to me how to treat two adjacent pentominoes of the same height in terms of the skyscraper clues, since the case of two equal numbers never happens in a classical skyscraper puzzle.

Nevertheless a very nice puzzle.

@Tuace, @RockyRoer:
Thank you both for your patience.

I got the correct solution, used the width instead of height in one place.

Very nice and original!

@Luigi: Überprüf nochmal die HÖHE eines gewissen Pentominos ;)

@Luigi: Eingabe für jede Zelle! (20 Zeichen). In der englischen Codebeschreibung steht es sogar drin.

Fun and easy puzzle, thanks! :-)

You might also want to add the skyscrapers icon (in the last column above "magnets" and below "dominosearch")
