Pentominoes Dimensions Inequalities

(Published on 18. June 2021, 15:59 by RockyRoer)

I've made lots of sudoku puzzles - this is my first experience branching out into non-sudoku setting. Hope you enjoy!

If you liked this, here is another that uses this concept in another way: Pentomino Skyscrapers

The Rules:

  • Fill the grid with pentominoes. Pentominoes of the same shape (even after reflection or rotation) are not allowed to touch.
  • A horizontal inequality sign separates pentominoes, and the symbol refers to the WIDTH. A vertical inequality sign separates inequalities and refers to the HEIGHTS.
    • In the example puzzle, the I pentomino has a width of 1, the S-(red) has a width of 2, and the T has a width of 3, so the inequalities in R1C123 are satisfied.
    • In the example puzzle, the S-(red) pentomino has a height of 4, the V has a height of 3, so the inequality in R23C2 is satisfied.

      Example:

      Penpa Link for example:

The Puzzle:

Penpa link with answer check. Only check's edges drawn in green.

Solution code: For each cell in row 9 of the puzzle, the width of the pentomino it is in, then for each cell in column 2, the height of the pentomino it is in. (20 digits). Example with row 4 and column 2 would be: (13222 44333)

Your description should call the 'V' pentomino a 'V', not an 'L'.
Looks intriguing! I will definitely try this one.

REPLY: thanks - description has been edited. By the way, the other puzzle i posted using this concept may be interesting too -- you may want to take a look at that too. Not sure which is 'easier' they both use similar yet different logic. Good luck!

--yes, I saw it and will try it also
