Singalong with REM

Normal Sudoku rules apply
Killer Cages: Digits in a cage must sum to the total in the upper left corner of the cage and igits cannot repeat in a cage
Thermometers: Digits must increase, starting at the bulbous end
Disjoint Groups: Digits in the same position relative to their box must be different.
Maximum: Cells with arrows pointing out must be higher than all orthogonally connected cells

Listening to CTC, you pick up funny little phrases that stick in your head, like "That's three in the corner". Such is the inspiration for the solve of this puzzle. The idea was spawned by watching Simon's solve of Lizzy01's Disjoint Madness puzzle recently. I had never constructed a Disjoint puzzle before, so I thought I would give it a try. Another bit of inspiration here came from Vyse's use arrows in cages.

Enjoy! And sing along ...

Oh, nine, is bigger
It's bigger than two
And two is not three
The lengths that I will go two
The distance in your five
Oh no I've seven two much
I set it up

That's three in the corner
That's three in the spot-light

Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with two
And I don't know if one can two it
Oh no I've eight too much
I haven't eight enough

I thought that I heard two laughing
I thought that I heard two sing
I think I thought I saw two try
Every whisper, of every waking four
I'm choosing my killer cages
Trying to keep an eye on two
...

Betrachten Sie sechs
Betrachten Sie sechs, den Hinweis des Jahrhunderts
Betrachten Sie den Slip als disjunkt
Das brachte mich auf meine drei, scheiterte
Was ist, wenn all diese Thermoskannen kommen?
Herumwirbeln
Jetzt habe ich zwei viel gesetzt

Rollo: A nice puzzle and a great story. I really enjoyed comparing both texts with the original :-).
I don't understand what the 6 key words are for, however, and it is certainly not a Kropki.

Ryx: Sorry, I had more lyrics, but only so much ext will fit in f-puzzles. I should have included that bit here:

Trying to keep an eye on two
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no I've said two much
I set it up
Consider six
Consider six, the hint of the century
Consider disjoint the slip
That brought me to my threes, failed
What if all these Thermos come
Flailing around
Now I've set two much

Michael Stipe was well known for forgetting the lyrics to his own songs, he defintely wouldnt be able to handle those changes!

Ryx: I didn't know that - thanks for sharing ... and solving.

Great puzzle; always had to think about the next step, but never reached a point where I felt like I was stuck. Solved it on my second try because I started out with an error on my first attempt. Unfortunately, I cheated a bit because I had to use a Kakuro tool for the 33 cage.

Ryx: Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it! Truth be told, I am not so young anymore and forgetful, so can't memorize every number combination of killer cage combinations, so I use this as a reference:

https://www.brainbashers.com/combinations.asp

Prior to finding that, I was always using Excel, on the "difficult" ones.

This was a wonderful piece of sudoku! Never was too hard, but always kept me thinking. Great logic with classy solution from start to finish. Thanks!

Ryx: Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it so much! As my notes say, it was a somewhat collaborative effort, in that I drew inspiration from multiple sources.

One of my first puzzles (https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/Raetsel/zeigen.php?id=0003UF) has a similar construction (of the thermos), but is nowhere near as "nice". When I first started setting puzzles, I had a tendency to use a lot of different constraints.

I was about 5 mins in before I even *noticed* the thermos. Oh dear, not an auspicious start LOL

Ryx: Were you preoccupied with the singalong portion :-?
