Chaos Construction: Minesweeper

(Published on 29. March 2021, 13:28 by Phistomefel)

In this puzzle you have to solve an irregular sudoku, where the shape of the regions must first be determined using minesweeper clues.

About the rules:
  • Every row, every column and every region contains each number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
  • A number in a circle indicates, how many of the 9 surrounding cells (including the own cell) belong to the same region as the own cell. Not all possible circles are given.

Here you find a example for this puzzle type on a 6x6-grid.

Here you can find a link to the example.

The puzzle is also available online via Penpa Plus. Have fun solving!

Solution code: 8th row, 3rd column

that final irregular was _brutal_. Great CC.

@AppleSaws: Oh my, this is annoying. It happened to me, as well, that I copied a puzzle incorrectly into a software which made it unsolvable. Thank you so much for persevering and solving the puzzle!

If you are interested in a way how to solve the end of the puzzle logically (which is quite difficult to spot), you can take a look at hidden comment from April 10. There, the missing bit is probably described. If it was something else, just let me know and I will try to remember how the logic went.

Totally didn't waste literally forever because I ported the puzzle into f-puzzles incorrectly :(. Great puzzle though, though at the very very end I couldn't find anything logical and just tried a few things until it worked.

Wow, that took me a long time, broke the puzzle a few times, before finally realizing my mistake.. Very nice puzzle indeed!

That took me a few hours but it was totally worth it. Thank you Thomas, that was brilliant. I have no idea how you design such amazing puzzles :)

The number 2 is added to make progress. I hope to see how the CTC video works. Thanks for the beautiful logic design!

Added a given 2 to the puzzle. Many thanks to Jesper, dandelo and DiMono for helping to find and fix the error!

Yeah, this type of puzzle is my favorite - lots of geometry and little arithmetics. But I just can't find the entry into the second step (the first being more of a gimme). I will keep trying for now...

Thank you so much for trying and sorry for my mistake in constructing this puzzle which probably caused you a headache. Now I added a number to the puzzle and it is - hopefully - finally uniquely solvable.

The puzzle contains an error which makes the puzzle incredibly difficult.

Thank you so much for your kind words and your perseverance, MagnusJosefsson and DiMono!

What a wonderful puzzle, thank you for setting it.

Sorting out one of the circles made me think I'd made a mistake, but I just wasn't seeing an option. Really proud of myself for having solved this one.

Great puzzle! Nice logical path with sustained difficulty. A puzzle where you often feel stuck, but once you spot the next step everything makes sense.

Uff, sehr schön, aber auch verdammt knifflig.

Und dann ging es zuerst nicht auf. Aber zum Glück stimmten die Gebietsgrenzen.

Wow! Thanks for this delightful journey. I enjoyed following the trail of breadcrumbs.
