Long Knight's Different Magic

(Published on 24. February 2021, 05:39 by Ryx)

I apologize to anyone who tried this initially and was stumped, by my erroneous rule/image. Thanks to bigger and SKORP17 for pointing these out.

Normal Sudoku rules apply
  • The purple squares:
    * (along with the grey square) are the digits 1-9
    * form an "almost magic" circle, in that each diagonal, from purple to purple through the central grey square, sums to 25, and the row and column (from purple to purple, through the central grey square) sum to 35.
    * are "Long Knights" and cannot repeat their digit anywhere within a Long Knight's perimeter (the circle drawn by three moves in a straight line, then one orthogonally adjacent, in each direction).
-- Note: The "Long Knights" constraint is not applied to their digits in the central box (see example below)
  • The purple dots indicate difference of 2 or 4 between the adjacent cells.
  • The purple diamonds indicate difference of 1 or 3 between the diagonally connected cells.
  • The grey cell, in the central box, is the central point for reflecting every instance of that digit in the puzzle. For instance, if that digit was found in r1c2, it would see its reflection, through r5c5, at r9c8.
  • The central box is a magic square (all rows, columns and diagonals add to 15).
  • The perimeter cells marked with M also form a magic square with the central grey square, with sums of 15.

As a fun little bonus, the perimeter squares and main diagonals also form a magic square, with a sum of ... you guessed it, 45 ;-)

Wonderful puzzle! Initially I got mixed up by the rules, but after that was fixed, it was very fun and satisfying to complete. Thank you!

@ Shuhua Milk - I appreciate your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed it (let alone found it ;-). It is quite a lengthy and unusual ruleset, so understandable that it took a bit to wrap your head around.

Thank you!

Minor tweak, from: purple squares are 1-9, to: purple and grey squares are 1 -9

Kleine Änderung, von: lila Quadrate sind 1-9, zu: lila und graue Quadrate sind 1 -9

Corrected issue with "magic circle" rule, it is actually an "almost magic" circle.

Problem mit der Regel "magischer Kreis" korrigiert, es ist tatsächlich ein "fast magischer" Kreis.

Corrected image (was showing dots in central box, should have been the 4 clue instead)

Korrigiertes Bild (es zeigte Punkte im zentralen Feld, sollte stattdessen die 4 Hinweise sein)
