Sudoku Variants Series (305) - Encaged Kropki Sudoku

(Published on 27. January 2021, 00:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants ProjectI have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Encaged Kropki Sudoku
Apply classic sudoku rules.
The small numbers in the upper left corner of the cages (dotted outlined areas) indicate the sum of the digits in that area. Within each cage all digits must be different.

Only within cages kropki rules apply:
A white circle between two cells indicates that the neighbouring digits are consecutive;
A black circle between two cells indicates that one of the digits is twice as big as the other digit;
The absence of a circle indicates that there is no neighbouring digit that is either consecutive or double;
Be aware that between digits 1 and 2 the circle can be either white or black.

Kropki circles have to be placed by the solver such that the two given digits as cage sum represent the number of black and white circles in that cage. 12 means either one white and two black circles or one black and two white circles. Within cages all possible circles must be given in the cage sum.

Inspiration for this type comes from one of the most innovative sudoku authors in our portal: RockyRoer.

Very nice! I got through it quite rapidly and then crashed on the 11 cage, cause I'd been sloppy in box 9. Still, great puzzle.

@Richard: That's very nice of you to say. When office work resumed last autumn, I went from idling at home to finishing the entire year's work in a few months, including a lot of travel. Now things have calmed down again, and will likely remain relaxed until at least summer.

@henrypijames: good to see you back! I already missed you in the last months! :-)
