Connect The Dits

(Published on 20. January 2021, 04:18 by Undar_Beyond)

This is my first 2-person collab where Dance1211 came up with a brilliant idea that you'll find during the solve and we tried to implement it. We had several rule sets and after viewing several testing results, we decided to use a less ambiguous ruleset. Enjoy :)

F puzzle link at https://f-puzzles.com/?id=y5cw4d4u

Rules:
~Normal sudoku rules apply,
~Consecutive digits are separated by a white dit,
~Digits with a 1:2 ratio are separated by a black dot,
~Each grey dot either acts as a white dit or a black dot and must be deduced
~Decrypting the grey dots will reveal the final step,
~Negative constraint applies (although it's not checked in Fpuzzles).
We would like to thank Alice, Qodec, ahaupt, Clover, Joseph, Sam, Christopher, Reverend, AFrayedKnot, Rysmyth and 2 more for testing the sudoku.

Solution code: Enter an 18-digit code of column 5 and column 8

Nice puzzle.

To anybody in the fence of trying this, I recommend to try Cam’s Decodoku first:

The sudoku part is less involved but it will give you a sense of the type of thinking needed to fully solve this puzzle.

As in any mystery puzzle every little detail matters even “misspellings” so pay attention to that for a hint and google is your friend!

@thenamescam Will do so next time, sorry for my lack of experience for setting puzzles with hidden code.

I completely agree with bigger. The solution code would work far better as the decrypted dots, since the puzzle will have a unique solution once one figures that out. And guessing would not give one the entire solution.

I understand the idea, but can't guess the way you intend us to "decrypt" the grey dots. And I don't really want to, it seems to me that given your ruleset, the puzzle has no unique solution, since each puzzler could decide how to "decrypt". This step doesn't seem to be based on logic, or it has just an infinite number or interpretations...

Very impressive implementation of that idea! Fantastic puzzle.

@Ragna
Strange. Maybe you need to clean your cache? The dots are fine with me.

The dots in box 1 are still missing on f-puzzles.

Finished all cells except cell 1. Then cell 1 clashed!! How disappointing!!

Stunning puzzle though.

@Realshaggy Yeah I know, but I believe those who find the way will find it pretty amazing. Also, probably still need a bit more experience to create a hunt I will say, maybe I'll implement it again if so.

@SirWoezel Pretty sure the method is limited and well known enough.

This puzzle has been tested multiple times and there is a unique solution, the key is to think outside the box.

The dots between r1c2/r1c3 and r2c1/r3c1 are missing on f-puzzles. This is really cute though.

Just for clarity, do all grey dots act as one color or the color of each grey has to be deduced
